Essentially all criminal wrongdoing creates a civil claim for the underlying misconduct. Examples are violent crimes such as homicide, rape, assault and battery.
Employers sometimes are responsible for criminal acts of their workers. Of course, the key is whether the crime was committed on-the-job.
In 2004, Mr. Waterman obtained a jury award of $850,000.00 for a criminal assault and battery victim in Williamsburg/James City County. Currently, he has a multi- million dollar suit pending in Gloucester for another assault and battery victim, a student who suffered permanent brain injury.
